Q: Where is Camp Chikopi Located?

A: The campground is located on beautiful Ahmic Lake and surrounded by deep green forests. Chikopi is situated on over 400 acres of wilderness in the Almaguin Highlands of Ontario, about 185 miles north of Toronto and 30 miles east of Parry Sound. Q: What is Chikopi's philosophy?

A: Founded in 1920 by the late Olympic Swimming Coach Matt Mann of the University of Michigan, Chikopi's philosophy has been to combine sports and wilderness in a traditional camp setting for campers to improve self confidence, and think more positively in every challenge that arises. Emphasis is places on trying your hardest and using proper sportsmanship that also helps to improve social and life skills. Developing social and life skills is a by product in the process of developing technical sports skills.

Q: What type of program does Chikopi offer?

A: Individual instruction and skill enhancement are provided in over 20 sports throughout the summer. Campers do not have to be good at any or all of the sport activities. They are given the leadership guidance and coaching to do their best. Campers work to improve in their selected sports and gain proficiency in others. Selected sports include competitive swimming, soccer, tennis and more. The coaching staff consists of Olympic, National, University and High School coaches. Located in a popular canoeing region in Ontario, Chikopi also offers challenging and rewarding canoe trips, which supplement the sports program. Competition is an intrinsic part of the program but emphasis is placed on fair and considerate play.

Q: What about camp counselors and staff?

A: Chikopi's 3 to 1 camper staff ratio results in continual assistance and guidance on the spot. Counselors have a diversity of talents and are hand picked from qualified University students, most of whom attended Chikopi as campers. Senior staff members include school teaches and professionals from around the world who continue to mold thousands of boys who cherish their Chikopi experience. Both counselors and campers must abide by our alcohol and smoke free environment at Chikopi.

Q: What about the Chikopi swimming program?
