The saying goes, “it takes a village to raise a child”, that is fully realized in the residential camp environment at Camp Chikopi. Campers have access to support and guidance from a wide range of sources, including counselors, coaches, directors and their parents at home. At Camp Chikopi, campers are not only successful on the sports field, they develop the social and emotional skills, self-awareness and self-advocacy skills needed to succeed in High School and beyond. This is one of the reasons why parents choose to send their son to Camp Chikopi.
At Camp Chikopi, where the camper population comes from over 10 countries worldwide, campers’ safety, well-being and accomplishments are top priorities. At Camp Chikopi classes have a maximum of 12 campers, for Stephanie Dolan, our Competitive Canoe Coach, this provides a real opportunity to get to know each camper, in and out of the boats. Coaches stay on top of each campers’ challenges and successes. If a camper needs extra help or support he can visit the Directors Cabin or the staff house, where experienced coaches are available to provide extra help. We are like a village in many ways – working together to help each camper have a rewarding, fulfilling summer.
Camp Chikopi is an all-boys camp, it has remained popular with campers and parents who value the unique environment it provides their son. Being an all-boys camp, we remove the distracting influence of girls – allowing coaches to tailor the classes specifically to boys. At Camp Chikopi we harness boys’ energy and competitive instincts. We give the boys more opportunities to be active, they learn better by doing. Camp Chikopi allows boys to explore various interests without getting straightjacketed from fear of what the girls may think.
Camp Chikopi’s goals:
Emotional – our goal is to cultivate emotionally intelligent and confident boys capable of leading both themselves and others, this is a priority to us.
Social – our goal is to cultivate socially aware and active young men, motivated to change their world for the better.
Physical – our goal is to cultivate strong, flexible, active young men, in tune with the joy of sport and wellness.
