Pro Boim

Chikopi’s Baseball Coach, Irving (Pro) Boim passed away yesterday, Monday, 30th September 2013, at the age of 92. Pro was a regular on the Chikopi diamond until the late 90’s. Our thoughts and prayers go to his wife Betty, his son David and his three grandchildren.
Pro was born in Chicago on July 3rd, 1921.
1936 he was number one pitcher for Marshall High of Chicago, who lost every game of that season.
1942 he pitched University of Michigan to Big 10 Championship with a 1.4.
1944 pitched in Army-Navy World Series in the Pacific, struck out Ted Williams, twice.
1945 Awarded the Bronze Star.
1947 Signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates
1949 Drafted by the Chicago White Sox
1954 Purchased by the Cincinnati Reds
1956-63 In charge of Baseball program for Bill Virdon, Ken Boyer, Dick Howser Baseball Schools.
1963-75 Chicago White Sox Boys Camp Program Director
1977-99 Baseball Instructor at Camp Chikopi
1984 Honored by Chicago Jewish Sports Hall of Fame
1985 Honored by Ann Arbor School Teachers for outstanding work.
